so far, so good

Well last week was the cutback easy week, ran only 15.8 miles after weeks of 20 and 25 miles.  So now it’s time to push a bit harder again, aim is for around 27.5 miles which includes an 11 mile long run on Saturday.
Ran tempo yesterday, got in about 30 minutes of running up around [...]

The empty track

The run on Saturday went pretty well — 5.5 miles on an out-and-back, I did the out part in about 30:20, turned it around and came back faster some in spite of it being more uphill than downhill.
Sunday morning I got up at 5:15.  Blood sugar was 63 mg/dL then, I popped a gluose tablet [...]

Pachelbel’s canon in D

I woke up today, ended up spending some time on Youtube browsing through variations of Pachelbel’s canon in D.  It always saddens me, it evokes memories and imaginations, I’ll see images of people leaving and turning back to take a look, where the sadness is in the person leaving or in the person watching the [...]

Repeat after me: Hill repeats might do you a lot of good

Absolutely beautiful morning to run today, 60 degrees with low humidity.  That probably helped with some of the improvement over last week’s hill repeats when it was 67 degrees and humid, but still it looks to me like I saw a huge jump today.  I’m very very happy about what I saw this morning.
On the [...]

Good signs at the end of 25 miles

For the sixth time ever, I reached 25 miles in a week’s worth of running.  All the runs felt pretty positive in some way, the only exception being Wednesday’s recovery run sandwiched between the tempo on Tuesday and hill repeats on Thursday.  Wednesday’s run was just there taking up space sort of.
The 10 miles on [...]

Half buried tractor tires

I dreamed last night I was in a half-grown cornfield and off to the side, tractor tires had been abandoned and some were half-buried by mud.  I was thinking I should figure out a way to extract one of them and get it home so I’d have a big tire I could flip and beat [...]

Hill repeats

Since reading more about how to do hill repeats and what benefits they might provide, I’ve been looking forward to them.  I’ve been getting a taste of them when I started doing the mailbox sprint at the end which is uphill and takes me around 50 seconds right now.  But that was finishing up, I [...]

Recovery miles

It’s going to be more serious business this time around.  Last year was my easy improvement year for running — basically go out and run, I would get faster, I would get in better shape.  I probably could still run like that and see improvement, but I’m trying to be more focused about making sure [...]

Tempo Tuesday

Me versus the diabetes.  I woke up around midnight and checked my blood sugar since I was up.  118 mg/dL, a good number since I usually drop some during the overnight period.
4 AM, wake up, decide to check.  225 mg/dL.  Guh.  Did an intramuscular injection to see if I could get my number down to [...]
