on the lighter side of things

I did some deadlifts last night. Nothing heavy, I used 160 lbs. Although as I remember it last year when I began picking up heavy stuff off the ground like this, 160 lbs would feel pretty heavy. Ahhhh progress.
I did a total of 20 reps. I would do 2 reps, rest [...]

I’m convinced

It’s time to deload and take a break.
I’ve been feeling it since Saturday, first the run where my pace was super slow and slowed down throughout the run. Then trying to squat with the sandbag, I had nothing.
Took a break on Sunday and yesterday.
Weighted chin ups this morning. The 2 sets [...]

progress notes

I might be edging near some limits right now. I ran Saturday morning and my pace was very slow and degraded throughout the run. Then when I tried wrestling around with 105 lbs in the sandbag, it didn’t feel like I was all there. It just felt like my body was saying, [...]

300 lbs

I woke up yesterday morning and felt good. I knew that after work I would do my hard deadlift workout and I felt confident that 2×5×260 lbs would get done. My body felt ready for it.
Of course, as the day went along, in the afternoon I had some of the doubts [...]

chin ups and sandbags

Yesterday was weighted chin ups day. I got both the 2×5×65 lbs and the 3×3×75 lbs, although after the first set of 5 at 65 lbs, every one of those sets the final rep was very hard. I ended up pulling a PR of 92.5 extra pounds, but couldn’t get 95 lbs, so [...]

workouts and numbers

Wednesday evening, deadlifts, did 2 working sets of 5 reps at 255 lbs. Grip was stronger than prior week where I had resorted to straps on the second set of 5 at 250 lbs.
Thursday, freaking cold and windy outside, instead of running, I had an 80-lb sandbag that I would carry 80 [...]

gah

Yesterday started off well.
I got up at 5:15 like I planned, made some coffee and set about to pulling sets and reps of chin ups, where the working sets would be weighted chin ups. It ended up with these numbers:
1×5 unweighted chin ups
1×3×25 lbs
Those were my warm up sets. Then came the [...]

The Sandy 50

I’ve been thinking about making a sandbag for strength work and yesterday I bagged up 80-lbs of sand into smaller 5-lb minibags and then put all of that into a larger bag. This morning I gave myself the challenge of getting it up from the ground and put on a shoulder or in some [...]

about 20 lbs away

I was reading through the page at Beastskills about doing a one-armed chin up. After reading the part about hanging some weight over the bar with rope and using that for the other arm to help pull as needed to get upward movement, I decided to try it.
With a 20-lb db, I was [...]

awareness and obliviousness

For lunch today, I heated up some soup in the microwave. I stirred it up after heating, everything seemed good. I was happily putting down spoonful after spoonful up until I put a spoonful in that I had to spit back into the bowl because it was hot enough to singe my tongue [...]
